The Motor Carrier Authority is required for all Interstate "for-hire" and "private" carriers, including Interstate Brokers. This process begins with the acquisition of an MC Number that is provided after the application has been submitted to the governing federal agency; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, also knowns as, "FMCSA." Upon submission of the application, the MC Number is released immediately, however, there are additional compliance-related filing requirements that must be completed prior to the application's approval and the new carrier or broker placed in an active status.
